Kayla Hoohuli of
St. Marys (Pa.), the leading girls' basketball scorer in Pennsylvania last season, signed a letter of intent to play basketball at Canisius College in Buffalo Wednesday.
Hoohuli, who was a first-team Class AAA All-State selection by the Pennsylvania Sports Writers, is also the two-time All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com District 9 Girls' Basketball Player of the Year.
Last season, she averaged 30.3 points per game while adding 8.8 rebounds, 7.3 steals and 4.4 assists per game to help the Lady Dutch to their third straight District 9 Class AAA championship and a berth in the second round of the PIAA Class AAA playoffs. As a junior, she also hit 88 3-pointers and blocked 85 shots. She enters he senior season with 1,951 career points.
Canisius, which plays in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, was 12-19 last season. The Griffins are off to an 0-1 start this year after a loss to Kent State Friday and are coached by seventh-year head man Terry Zeh, who has a career record of 104-82 after the loss.
