The 2014 Major League Baseball Draft is set to begin with the first round on June 5. In preparation for the June draft, MaxPreps will be taking a look at the top 10 players at each position over the next three weeks. First up, the outfielders.
Top 10 High School Outfielders in the 2014 Draft
1. Michael Gettys, Gainesville (Ga.)
Gettys has helped Gainesville reach the Class 5A state semifinals. In 28 games, he is batting .372 with 40 RBIs, seven doubles and nine home runs. As a pitcher he's 5-3 with a 1.25 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings pitched.
What the scouts think: Gettys undoubtedly has lots of tools to work with, including good speed, a great arm and the ability to hit for power. Some scouts are skeptical of his ability to make contact on a consistent basis.
Where will he go: At one time Gettys was considered the top high school player in the draft. That type of enthusiasm has cooled off some, but he probably won't last past the top half of the draft.
2. Braxton Davidson, Roberson (Asheville, N.C.)
Davidson is batting .473 on the season with 18 RBIs, nine doubles and four home runs, however he has been on a tear of late, going 17-for-27 (.629) with four doubles and three home runs in his last nine games.
What the scouts think: Scouts tend to like Davidson's hitting ability and plus power. He is not considered the same type of athlete as Gettys and will likely end up in a corner outfield position. Also a first baseman, Davidson could stay there. Although he has a solid arm, he does not have a lot of speed and is only considered to be an average fielder.
Where will he go: One of the few solid high school power hitters in the draft, Davidson will likely go somewhere in the middle or end of the first round.
3. Monte Harrison, Lee's Summit West (Mo.)
Harrison is one of the reasons Lee's Summit West is ranked among the top teams in the country. He has 32 putouts from the outfield this season without committing an error. He's batting .425 (34-for-80) with 11 doubles, a triple and a home run. He's also walked 26 times and stolen 25 bases.

What the scouts think: Quite possibly the best all-around athlete in the nation, Harrison
has accepted a scholarship to Nebraska to play football. However,
Harrison's speed and athletic ability make him a possible high MLB Draft pick as well.
Where will he go: Some mock drafts have Harrison going in the first round but he will more than likely get picked on the second day of the draft, depending on how certain he is of playing football for the Huskers.
4. Marcus Wilson, Serra (Gardena, Calif.)
Serra (11-12) has not had the season it had last year when it won a Southern Section championship, but Wilson has been one of the team's
top players. In 22 games, he is batting .345 with 13 RBIs, four doubles
and four home runs.
What the scouts think: Wilson has good tools including a strong arm, good speed and a good bat with some power. He also has a big frame, which makes him very projectable for the future.
Where will he go: He could slip into the first round, but more likely will be a second-round player.
5. Derek Hill, Elk Grove (Calif.)
Hill is having a big year for the Thundering Herd (22-4), who are ranked among the top teams in the nation. Hill is batting .519 with 28 RBIs, nine doubles and seven triples. He also has 18 stolen bases.
What the scouts think: Above all, scouts like Hill's speed and defensive ability. However, he is a contact hitter who has shown he can hit for extra bases. That could elevate his draft status.
Where will he go: Round 2 or 3.
6. Matthew Railey, North Florida Christian (Tallahassee, Fla.)
Railey has been one of the fastest-rising prospects among the outfielders. A four-year player for North Florida Christian, Railey is batting .415 with 23 RBIs, 10 doubles and four home runs.
What the scouts think: Likely a corner outfielder with a decent-enough arm to play right field. Scouts would like to see him make a little better contact at the plate. A solid athlete.
Where will he go: An up-and-comer, Railey likely goes in round 4 or 5.
7. Stone Garrett, George Ranch (Richmond, Texas)
Garrett has helped lead George Ranch, which is in only its third year of existence, into the third round of the Class 4A state playoffs. He is batting .398 on the season with five doubles, seven home runs and 32 RBIs.
What the scouts think: Very projectable frame at 6-foot-2, 195 pounds. Solid power and good range in the outfield.
Where will he go: Somewhere between rounds 5 and 7.
8. John Littell, Stillwater (Okla.)

Littell has been one of the heavy hitters in Oklahoma this year. Besides leading Stillwater to an Xcellent 50 ranking, he's batted .452 with 40 runs scored, 36 RBIs, nine doubles, two triples and five home runs.
What the scouts think: Also a third base prospect, Littell is a very good contact hitter.
Where will he go: Where Littell goes in the draft will likely depend on how the team wants to use him, as a corner infielder or a corner outfielder. But he should go in the top 10 rounds.
9. Justin Smith, Bartram Trail (St. Johns, Fla.)
Smith provided consistent offensive production for Bartram Trail this year, batting .314 with 30 runs scored, five doubles and three home runs.
What the scouts think: He makes good contact and can run but needs to work on more consistent defense.
Where will he go: Top 10 rounds.
10. Alex Destino, North Buncombe (Weaverville, N.C.)
Destino is having one of the best offensive seasons of any player in the country. Batting .563 (49-for-87), Destino has 42 runs scored, 41 RBIs, 14 doubles and 14 home runs. As a pitcher, Destino is 9-1 on the season with a 1.44 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings pitched.
What the scouts think: Mostly considered a pitching prospect, Destino has shown some pop at the plate this year with 14 home runs (he had only three last year). If his offense continues to develop, teams might take a gamble on Destino as an everyday player.
Where will he go: Top 10 rounds.
