Junior
Taylor Snively of
Zionsville (Ind.) etched her name into the state record book Friday after posting an 11-under 59 at the Sectional 15 championship at West Chase Golf Club.
Long considered golf's magic number, 59 has only been accomplished 15 times on the PGA Tour with Jim Furyk actually carding a 58 in 2016.
Snively's 59 is the lowest total in an Indiana High School Athletic Association event, three clear of Cybil Stillson's 62 in 2021. She also shot a 62 at a section in as a freshman.
Amazingly, her card wasn't perfect with a bogey to go with three eagles and seven birdies. She went out in 6-under 30 with eagles on 1 and 3. She bested that on the back nine with a 29, including her third eagle on 10. Her scorecard featured only one 5, a bogey on the par-four 7th.
Snively looking to become the third Indiana golfer to win three consecutive state titles.
The Eagles hope to advance out of regional play Friday at Harrison Hills Golf Course in defense of back-to-back titles. Their 266 at sectionals bested the field by 38 strokes as
Avery Lewis carded a 66,
Olivia Patton posted a 70 and
Paige Henney and
Kaitlyn Adler each shot 71.
The state finals are Oct. 2-3 at Battle Ground Country Club.
Snively has been on a roll after winning the 48th North & South Girls Junior title over the summer at Pinehurst in North Carolina. She is ranked 192nd in the American Junior Golf Association rankings.
