Video: The rise of Kareem Hunt
See how the Chiefs' running back went from unknown to NFL stardom.
For all the fantasy players kicking themselves for not taking a fifth-round flyer on
Kareem Hunt, you're not alone.
The early leader for NFL Rookie of the Year honors – and perhaps dark horse MVP candidate – has taken the league by storm after an inauspicious start to his Kansas City Chiefs' career.
After earning the starting running back job in preseason, Hunt debuted against the defending Super Bowl champion Patriots and fumbled on his first NFL carry. He regrouped to pile up 246 total yards — 148 rushing and 98 receiving — and three touchdowns against New England.
The under-the-radar Rocket from the University of Toledo is this year's breakout sensation. But the questions for many remain: Who is Kareem Hunt and where did he come from?
From All-State at
South (Willoughby, Ohio) to the University of Toledo to a 2017 NFL Draft class that included
Dalvin Cook,
Leonard Fournette,
Christian McCaffrey and
Joe Mixon, Hunt has often been overlooked and overshadowed.
