Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding
performers in high school basketball. The tradition continues to close
out the 2025-26 season by naming the top player in each state.
Selections are based on team success and individual excellence in
addition to local and state accolades.
Brandon McCoy of
Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) is the 2025-26 MaxPreps California High School Basketball Player of the Year. The 6-foot-5 senior guard led the Trailblazers to a 30-1 record and the Open Division state championship.
For the season, McCoy averaged 19.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.2 steals per contest while shooting 61.8 percent from the field.
