Video: Andrea Freiling's highlights vs. Plattsmouth High
See the Nebraska City High star in action this season. With the Nebraska girls subdistrict basketball tournaments for Classes C1, C2, D1 and D2 approaching next week, and district competition beginning for Classes A and B the week after, we have decided to take a look at which subdistricts/districts could be the Waterloo for some very good Nebraska girls basketball teams in 2015-16.
And we decided to share our findings with you, the fan.
While the collective winning percentage for each subdistrict/district, and the average MaxPreps ranking for the teams assigned to those subdistrict/district tournaments, were considered for this Top 10, they weren't the only info used for the order in which these uber-competitive tournaments were chosen.
Take for instance the B-1 district, which we selected No. 1 based on the strength of three of the top six schools in Class B competing for their guaranteed spot in the girls state basketball tournament March 3-5 in Lincoln. Nebraska City, Norris, Platteview, Plattsmouth and Waverly combine for the seventh-highest collective winning percentage of the tournaments selected; yet the B-1 is loaded with teams hoping to bring home the gold.
We did select a Class A game for this Top 10 since Class A's district assignments have not been announced yet. While a regular-season game may not carry the same importance to some teams, as one of these tournaments, it is a big one to say the least.
Bellevue West goes into Friday's featured contest having won nine of its last 10 contests, while Fremont has won 16 straight in-state games since falling to Papillion-LaVista South 62-54 in the season opener. The Tigers are 17-4 on the year when including Fremont's trip to Arizona to compete in the Nike Tournament of Champions in December. Tony Weinandt's club produced a 1-3 record at one of the nation's premier tournaments.
Below, listed under each subdistrict/district, are the teams that will compete in that tournament as well as each school's record through last Saturday's games and the MaxPreps ranking of each school as of Monday.
