The MaxPreps Cup standings have a new leader after the month of February.
American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) moved from No. 6 to No. 1 with 1,562 points thanks to state championships in boys and girls soccer. Both teams were nationally-ranked.
American Heritage has previously won the MaxPreps Cup in 2012 and 2018.
Wayzata (Plymouth, Minn.), the No. 1 school after the fall and January updates, drops to No. 2 with 1,329 points. Minnesota has not concluded its state playoffs yet.
Bentonville (Ark.) also made a big move, going from No. 14 to No. 3. The Tigers won state championships in boys and girls swimming during February and also finished second in bowling. Bentonville captured the MaxPreps Cup in 2014 and 2015.
The highest debuting team is
Westfield (N.J.), which comes in at No. 6 after not being ranked at all last month. The Blue Devils won a state title in boys indoor track and boys swimming and finished second in girls swimming.
The MaxPreps Cup is a formula devised to determine the top overall high school sports programs in the nation. Schools receive points based on winning state championships or finishing second. Point totals are also based on size of state, popularity of sport, enrollment division and number of teams in the enrollment division. Points are also awarded for appearing in national rankings, when available.
