The loss ended Bowling Green's 48-game win streak, which was the second-longest in state history. Only the 50-game win streak by Trinity (Louisville) from 1988 to 1991 is longer. The win streak was also the third-longest current win streak in the nation behind the 60-game streak by Ithaca (Mich.) and 57-game streak by Bellevue (Wash.).
“It’s been a long time since we’ve had to come in after a loss,” Bowling
Green coach Kevin Wallace told the
Park City Daily News. “There’s an
awful lot of disappointed people in this building. I think my
perspective is that they don’t give rings for a streak. They weren’t
giving a ring out for this game tonight."
McCallie (3-0) drove 80 yards in the final minutes of the game and scored on a 3-yard touchdown pass from
Javaughn Craig to
Matthew Brock with 24 seconds left.
Bowling Green attempted a trick play in the final seconds, but McCallie intercepted the reverse pass by the Bowling Green wide receiver.
