Nebraska's current Top 10 boys basketball win streaks

Putting together a talent-heavy roster generally goes a long way toward producing deep postseason runs and claiming the hardware that goes along with winning state championships. However, there are no guarantees.

Sometimes the hardware is attained simply because the champion gets hot at the right time, sneaks up on the rest of the field and steals the show.

While the usual hombres are once again favorites to win it all in Nebraska, so long as they survived the chaos that is Nebraska boys district basketball, MaxPreps is taking a look at those Cornhusker State teams that are hot at the moment. Some of the names on our Nebraska Top 10 boys basketball winning streaks post won't surprise our readers — but some may.

Kenesaw is Nebraska's lone unbeaten boys basketball team in 2017-18 and grabs the top spot with a 26-game winning streak. Yutan, however, lost its season opener to Elmwood-Murdock and has won 24 straight games since to land the runner-up spot. Platteview and Hastings St. Cecilia grab the third and fourth spots with 17 and 16 game winning streaks respectively, while Omaha Creighton Prep and Omaha Skutt tied for fifth with 15 straight wins.

Classes A, B, C2, D1 and D2 are all represented in this week's Top 10. Class C1 power Wahoo, however, just missed this week's post with nine straight wins, which places them 11th in the Cornhusker State.

As teams get hot at season's end, of course, they climb in the polls both locally and nationally, as is evidence of Nebraska's 10 hottest boys basketball programs. Taking a look at this week's MaxPreps power rankings, and comparing them to last Friday's, a couple of schools have climbed in the national poll by leaps and bounds.

Class C2's Hastings St. Cecilia made a power surge like no other in Nebraska, climbing 177 spots to 671st nationally, while Class C2's Yutan soared up the national rankings 152 rungs. Six Cornhusker State round ball squads from this week's Top 10 improved their standing in MaxPreps' National Rankings over a week ago.

While Kenesaw made it through regular season and district play undefeated, Yutan, Omaha Creighton Prep and Ponca made the Top 10 with one loss each. Ten boys basketball programs have won 10 straight games, or more, to find a spot in our latest Nebraska Top 10 — and they are ready for the rip roaring postseason basketball fun coming their way in March.

On the first line we have provided the school, its updated won-loss record and the winning streak the school is currently on. The second line lists each school's MaxPreps Ranking as of Tuesday — locally and nationally – and the third line informs the reader of which school the team last lost to, and when.
