Florida State has landed two of the nation's top senior baseball players in
Brendan Rodgers and
Dazmon Cameron; however, getting them to actually attend the school will be a challenge.
Rodgers, a shortstop from
Lake Mary (Fla.), is ranked by MaxPreps as the top senior in the country in the latest list of the nation's
Top 100 Seniors. A number of mock drafts have Rodgers being selected as the No. 1 overall pick in the Major League Baseball draft in June.
Cameron, meanwhile, is an outfielder at
Eagle's Landing Christian Academy (McDonough, Ga.) and he is the son of former MLB outfielder Mike Cameron. He ranks as the No. 2 senior on the MaxPreps list. Cameron is projected to go somewhere among the top 15 picks in the June draft.
UCLA, meanwhile, has commitments from the next two players on the list in pitchers
Kolby Allard and
Justin Hooper. Allard is a right-hander from
San Clemente (Calif.) while Hooper is a left-handed pitcher from
De La Salle (Concord, Calif.). Both Allard and Hooper are projected first round draft picks with Allard expected to be the first high school pitcher drafted.
The MaxPreps Top 100 Seniors list is based on a number of factors, including player recruiting rankings, national all-star appearances, preseason All-American teams, and mock drafts.
Chris Betts, a catcher from
Woodrow Wilson (Long Beach, Calif.), is the third player from California in the Top 10. He comes in at No. 6. Texas has a pair in the top 10 in No. 8
Trent Clark of
Richland (North Richland Hills, Texas), an outfielder, and No. 10
Beau Burrows of
Weatherford (Texas), a pitcher.
Other players in the top 10 include No. 5
Ashe Russell, a pitcher from
Indianapolis Cathedral, No. 7
Mike Nikorak, a pitcher from
Stroudsburg (Pa.), and No. 9
Nick Plummer, an outfielder from
Brother Rice (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.).
Florida has 21 players on the list — over one-fifth of the total. Texas has 17 players on the list while California has 16. Georgia has 11 players and North Carolina has four. Pennsylvania, Colorado and Louisiana each had three players on the list while Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee, Ohio, New York and Arizona each had two while Oklahoma, Nevada, South Carolina, Mississippi, Arkansas, Delaware, Oregon, Maryland, New Hampshire and Missouri each have one.
