Jenks (Okla.) vs. Union (Tulsa, Okla.)What to watch: Yet another
chapter will be written in one of America's top rivalries Friday night
in Tulsa's Chapman Stadium. What makes the "Backyard Brawl" series
unique is the utter dominance the two programs have had over the
rest of their state. Since 1996, every single Oklahoma Class 6A state
championship trophy has gone to one of these two neighboring
schools. Jenks has a 1-0 record after
hammering Bixby, 66-20, last
Friday. Junior quarterback
Cooper Nunley passed for 331 yards and four
touchdowns as the Trojans extended their winning streak to 27 games.
Although it
lost to Carroll (Southlake, Texas), 42-41 in overtime at
AT&T Stadium, Union put on an impressive offensive performance.
Leading the way was running back
Tyler Adkins, who started his
junior season with 181 rushing yards and four touchdowns.
Just
the facts: Jenks has won back-to-back state titles and 11 crowns overall
since 1996. Union has seven championships since 2002, including the
four in a row from 2008-11. … Jenks defeated Union twice
last season to extend its lead in the all-time series to 33-19 since
1949. Union had won five in a row against the Trojans between 2010-12 and
still has a 10-9 edge in games played since 2004.
