When nearly every major college wants your services and when recruiting reporters track nearly every move you make, how do you maintain a sense of normalcy in your life?
If you're
Freedom (Oakley, Calif.) running back
Joe Mixon, you take a step back — and change your cell phone number.

That's how the nation's
No. 20 recruit in the 247Composite gained control of the recruiting process.
It's easy to see why colleges are hot on Mixon's trail.
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound senior has good size but is incredibly nimble and has good speed.
So far as a senior, he's rushed 200 times for 1,515 yards and 22 touchdowns to go along with two receiving scores. Mixon has lead Freedom to a 6-5 record and last week, helped Freedom to a 55-17 playoff victory over Foothill.
He'll attempt to help Freedom advance past the second round in a matchup with Pittsburg on Friday night.
In an interview with MaxPreps earlier this fall, Mixon gave some advice to future blue chip recruits who might find themselves in his shoes.
"Just to keep a good head on your shoulders. Keep your grades up at all times. Keep grinding. Basically try to influence other kids who want to be like you. Remember that other kids are looking up to you to set an example," Mixon said.
