The high school football season in Texas will come to a close this weekend with 12 state championship contests at AT&T Stadium.
The biggest game of the weekend in the Lone Star State was the 6A Division 1 championship between the defending champs, North Shore and Duncanville. The Mustangs repeated beating the Panthers 31-17. Dematrius Davis Jr. was named Offensive MVP for the second consecutive year.
In the 5A Division 2 championship to kick off Saturday's action Aledo made history and became the 11-man team to win nine state titles. They beat Fort Bend Marshall for the second consecutive year in the state championship. 2020 Alabama signee ended his historic high school career rushing for 217 yards and two touchdowns in the 45-42 victory.
The night cap on Saturday featured Denton Guyer and Austin Westlake. The Chaps won their first state title since 1996 when the NFL's all-times leading passer and touchdown leader Drew Brees was there. They shutout the Wildcats 24-0 to claim the 6A Division 2 title.
The action began Friday with Carthage (16-0) capping an unbeaten season with a 42-28 win over La Vega (14-2) in Class 4A Division 1. Carthage has won six state titles since 2008 and three in the last four years. The Bulldogs are 49-3 since 2016.
In Class 4A Division 2, Pleasant Grove (15-1) won its second state title in three years with a 35-21 victory over Wimberley (12-4). Pleasant Grove, who got 254 yards and three scores from running back Bruce Garrett, also reached the title game in 2018 but lost to Cuero.
Shadow Creek (16-0) made history by winning a state championship in just its third varsity season, beating Denton Ryan (15-1) 28-22 for the Class 5A Division 1 title. The Sharks are 31-1 over the past two seasons, with the lone loss coming in last year's championship game to Highland Park.

Three state champions were crowned on Thursday.
In Class 3A Division 1, Grandview (15-1) knocked off previously unbeaten Pottsboro (15-1) 42-35 to repeat as champions. The Zebras are 31-3 over the past two seasons.
Gunter (15-1), making its third championship game appearance in four years, beat Pewitt (14-2) for the Class 3A Division 2 crown.
Mart (13-3) won its third consecutive title, beating Hamlin (12-3) 25-20 for the Class 2A Division 2 championship. The Panthers have reached the final nine times since 1999, winning six of them.
The action got underway Wednesday with three games, including a pair of 6-man championships.
In 6-Man Class 1A Division 1, Blum (13-2) outlasted McLean (15-2) 58-52 while Richland Springs (14-0) dominated Motley County (11-4) 62-16 in Class 1A Division 2.
The Class 2A Division 1 championship game was a battle of unbeatens with Refugio (16-0) emerging with a 28-7 win over Post (15-1). The Bobcats also won state titles in 2011 and 2016 and have now won five overall.
Champions in 2018 include McLean (1A 6-Man Division 1), Strawn (1A 6-Man Division 2), Mason (2A Division 2), Mart (2A Division 2), Grandview (3A Division 1), Newton (3A Division 2), Waco La Vega (4A Division 1), Cuero (4A Division 2), Highland Park (5A Division 1), Aledo (5A Division 2), Galena Park North Shore (6A Division 1) and Longview (6A Division 2).
