The MaxPreps National High School Flag Football Record Book got a major refresh this season with
13 new records broken across its 42 statistical categories, signaling just how fast the sport is evolving nationwide.
Leading the surge was
Ava Ortman of Ventura (Calif.), who rewrote the record book in
three different categories, delivering a standout performance that not only defined her season but also cemented her place in the national conversation as one of the sport’s most dynamic players.
RECORD BOOK: Ortman, Trujillo among new entries
Ortman, a senior quarterback, completed her three-year varsity career as the nation's all-time leading passer with 18,115 yards and a national-best 1,678 completions in a record 2,484 attempts. She also ranks third all-time with 258 touchdown passes.

The pass-catch combination of quarterback
Azul Trujillo and receiver
Jessica Manriquez of
Vincent Memorial (Calexico, Calif.) broke three records between them. Both sophomores, Trujillo set the single-season passing yardage mark with with 9,503 yards while Manriquez caught a national record 276 receptions for 3,702 yards.
Among the other records included
Laela Johnson of
Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) with 110 tries for the season,
Faith Ugoje of
Narbonne (Harbor City, Calif.) with 47 career interceptions and
Leshawna Stephens of
O'Farrell Charter (San Diego, Calif.) with 14 interception returns for touchdowns.
Flag football is held across the country during the fall, winter and spring seasons. The national record book will be updated after each season.
