Video: No. 11 Allen vs. Prosper highlightsSee the Eagles in a 35-7 victory that moved Allen to 9-0.For those teams fighting for the final playoff berths, the last game of the regular season can be a tense and nervous experience.
But for the teams in MaxPreps Texas Top 25, the heavy lifting has already been done. Playoff berths are assured. All that's left for the ranked teams in Class 6A and 5A is to have a higher district finish than its first-round opponent to ensure a home game in the playoff opener.
The highest reward is holding the trophy in Arlington on state championship weekend Dec. 18-21. That requires the daunting task of six playoff wins.
Coaches of teams that have already wrapped up a playoff slot can face a dilemma in Week 11. Rest the starters to avoid injury? Stay with the plan that has gotten a team this far? Or compromise and play the starters for a half, perhaps resting those with minor injuries, and then go with backups for the remainder.
Whatever the decision, it is a less stressful position than having to win on the final night and get help from another team to extend the season, just to draw the honor of facing a team like Duncanville or Katy in the opening round.

Highland Park coach Randy Allen became the third Texas high school coach to reach 400 career wins with the Scots' 42-35 overtime victory over Lancaster in last week's District 6 showdown. Allen has coached Jerry Jones' grandsons and the Cowboys owner was on hand to see the historic victory. "I'm not sure there's a better coach not only in the state of Texas, but in the country,'' Jones said. The others to reach the milestone are Phil Danaher, still active at Calallen (Corpus Christi) with 467 wins and G.A. Moore, who retired in 2011 with 423.

1. Aledo (8-1)
2. Manvel (9-0)
3. FB Marshall (Missouri City) (8-1)
4. A&M Consolidated (College Station) (9-0)
5. Calallen (Corpus Christi) (9-0)

Senior Euler De Leon carried 14 times for 182 yards, including a 79-yard touchdown, to help No. 3 Navarro defeat defending state champion Cuero 22-14 last week. The defeat knocked Cuero out of the playoff picture, ending a streak of six consecutive seasons when the teams faced off in the playoffs.

1. Wall (9-0)
2. Whitney (8-1)
3. Grandview (8-1)
4. Malakoff (8-1)
5. Pottsboro (9-0)

A nine-yard pass from Garrett Peacock to Kolby Tanner with 48 seconds remaining gave Whitney a 26-21 victory. Tanner had eight catches for 113 yards and two scores. With its eighth win, Whitney leaped to No. 2 in this week's ranking. Its only loss was to Class 4A-2 Robinson. Wall, a 20-6 winner over Breckenridge, climbed to No. 1.

Four of the top five teams exceeded the 60-point threshold in lopsided victories last week. No. 1 Canadian scored one more point in its 66-18 win over Dimmitt than No.3 Rogers in its 65-14 shellacking of Florence. No. 4 Gunter had to settle for "only'' 50 points in its 43-point romp over Henrietta.
