The former
Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) standout receiver and the son of rapper Snoop Dogg has quit the UCLA football team, coach Jim Mora told reporters Friday morning.
Broadus, a four-star recruit, told Mora that he's "wanting to do his own thing," which includes helping to run his own company, "Film School Productions." According to the coach, Broadus, a freshman, will remain at the school.
"Cordell informed me yesterday that he has decided to pursue other passions in his life," Mora said in a statement.
The soft-spoken 6-foot-3, 190-pounder caught 39 passes for 602 yards and 11 touchdowns for Gorman last season, helping the Gaels to a mythical national title.
His entire senior season was filmed by ESPN as part of a documentary "Snoop & Son," highlighting the relationship between him and his father.
His dad, an avid USC fan, was good-natured after his son picked the cross-town rival last February: "I'm backing him up 1,000 percent so I'm going to throw away all my USC drawers," he told reporters that day. I'm going UCLA 100,000 percent."
No word yet if Snoop Dogg backs his son's decision to quit football.
"Cordell is an amazing young man with many talents and we wish him nothing but the best as he continues to pursue his degree at UCLA," Mora said.
