decide. MaxPreps is proud to again sponsor the Ohio Athlete of
the Week awards during the 2022-23 school year.
Each week during the season, there will be
a fan-generated contest to tab weekly
winners. Each winner receives a letter and award
patch for their varsity jacket.
How does it
work? Nominees are selected from
statistics submitted on MaxPreps. Coaches who do not have current access may
request their free account here.
Weekly finalists are released on MaxPreps every
Tuesday and voting is conducted in a special poll.
Voting ceases at noon on Mondays. The winners are announced the next day
along with the next week's nominees.
Participants may vote as many
times as they want. It's a competition. This past week, over 46,000 votes were cast. So far this season over 270,000 votes have been cast.
Week 2 Ohio High School Athletes of the Week
* Kaleigh Palmer, Wapakoneta VolleyballSenior
had 36 and 34 kills in wins over Findlay (3-2) and Bellefontaine (3-0),
respectively. Has 90 kills and 46 digs through four games.
* Tessa Knapp, Bay Girls SoccerSophomore had five goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Parma. Also ad three goals in a 7-3 win over West Geauga.
* Lauren Barber, Lakewood Girls SoccerSenior goalie had 19 saves in a 4-3 win over Westlake. Also had eight saves in a 5-2 win over Laurel.

* Marco Cirigliano, Columbia (Columbia Station) FootballJunior carried the ball 45 times for 409 yards and four TDs in a 42-41 win over Northwestern. Has 831 yards and 11 TDs through three games. Averaging 9.9 yards per carry.
* Daone Owens, Copley FootballJunior threw for 346 yards and six TDs and ran for 153 yards and a TD in a 67-54 loss to Medina Buckeye.
* Zachary Johnson, St. Joseph Central (Ironton) Boys SoccerSenior had three hat-tricks with three goals and four assists in a 10-0 win over Portsmouth, fur goals in a 5-0 win over Fairland and three goals in a 7-1 win over Western.
* Dru DeShields, West Branch (Beloit) FootballSenior threw for 337 yards and five TDs and ran for 22 yards and a TD in a 49-7 win over Revere. Has thrown for 889 yards and 12 TDs and rushed for 236 yards and three TDs in three games.
* Hannah Dobbs, Toronto VolleyballJunior had 38 kills and 22 digs in a 3-2 win over Steubenville, 27 kills and 31 digs in a 3-2 loss to Conotton Valley and 20 kills and 12 digs in a 3-0 win over Buckeye Central. Has 142 kills and 131 digs in six matches.
* Nathan Buecker, Piqua Boys SoccerSenior had five goals and two assists in a 10-0 win over Lehman Catholic and four goals in a 6-4 loss to Sidney. Also had a goal in a 1-1 tie with Graham. Has 14 goals in five games.
* Travis Merrill, Elyria Catholic FootballSenior had 16 tackles (eight solos), nine hurries, seven TFL, three sacks and a blocked punt in a 35-14 win over Midview. Hs 34 tackles, 14 TFL and six sacks in three games.
* Haley Knore, Minford Girls SoccerSenior had four goals and two assists in an 8-0 win over Waverly and three goals and an assist in a 6-0 win over Northwest.
