Video: Jacob Jones' highlights vs. Indianapolis CathedralSpeedway (Ind.) standout has monster game.Chris Helbig of Holy Family (Broomfield, Colo.) became just the second quarterback in Colorado history to throw for 500 or more yards in a season last week when he threw for exactly 500 in a 56-14 win over Berthoud (Colo.). His effort is one of the highlights of this week's National Stat Stars list.
Helbig set the state record earlier this season when he threw for 607 yards in a single outing. Owen Burke of D'Evelyn (Denver) became the first quarterback to do it last year. He also has a 597-yard performance this year, which is second only to Helbig's effort.
Meanwhile Shelton Eppler of Navasota had his best effort of the season as he had just one incomplete pass (22 for 23) while throwing for 543 yards and eight touchdowns. The final two totals were both career highs for the third-year quarterback who set the Texas state record for touchdown passes in a season last year with 71. His 128 career touchdown passes place him No. 8 all-time in Texas history.
