High school football rankings: Santa Margarita moves to No. 2 in MaxPreps Top 25 after 21-7 win at St. John Bosco

California powerhouse Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) added another marquee win under head coach Carson Palmer as it took down St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 21-7 on the road.

Santa Margarita moved up one spot to No. 2 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings.

The Eagles have won 14 in a row dating back to last year and Palmer has led the program to nine victories against MaxPreps Top 25 opponents since taking over in 2025.

Against St. John Bosco, Fletch Palmer completed 12 of 21 passes for 167 yards and a score. Grant Mosley hauled in five catches for 76 yards and a touchdown while Class of 2030 standout Kiyan Callis led the team with six receptions for 80 yards. Rayshawn Brandon and Ca'ron Williams both had an interception. Star freshman linebacker Aydan Steen led the team with six tackles and added a tackle for loss and half sack. The defense has held opponents to seven points or less in seven of eight games. In Alabama, Prattville made the biggest jump in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 going from No. 98 in our expanded top 100 to No. 21 after upsetting previously-ranked Thompson (Alabaster, Ala.) 28-27. Elijah Brown blocked the go-ahead, 21-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds to seal the win. The defense picked off Trent Seaborn four times with Clemson-bound defensive back Jayden Bailey leading the way with two interceptions.

In Florida, No. 6 Columbus (Miami) added another impressive win to its resume with a 28-3 victory over previously-ranked Central (Miami). The game was called in the third quarter because of severe weather and lightning. The Explorers were in complete control from start to finish to claim the Greater Miami Athletic Conference championship and wrap up the regular season next week at Northwestern (Miami).

Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.) and Folsom (Calif.) were the only two new teams to join the MaxPreps Top 25.

The Cougars won their 34th game in a row with a 27-20 win over a previously-undefeated Archbishop Rummel (Metairie, La.) squad to improve to 7-0. Edna Karr had to replace over 20 players that signed with college programs last season but haven't slowed down as it owns quality wins over Ruston, Brother Martin (New Orleans), John Curtis Christian (River Ridge and Rummel.

Folsom took down rival Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) 28-21 to start the year 8-0 for the first time since 2017. Cal-bound quarterback Brody Rudnicki threw for 234 yards and scored three touchdowns on the ground. Rob Larson was his favorite target finishing with 115 yards. He has 259 yards receiving in two games since making his senior debut a couple weeks ago. The defense made key plays, forcing four turnovers with two coming in the fourth quarter.
