High school football rankings: Bishop Gorman goes down, new No. 1 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 – find out who it is

A'mir Sears led Columbus (Miami, Fla.) to a 33-28 upset win over previous No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) on Saturday, making five catches for 67 yards and two touchdowns to go with three interceptions on defense. 

Columbus went from unranked to No. 6 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings. 

It was a team effort for Columbus as senior quarterback Kai Moore threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns. The Explorers won the turnover battle 4-0 and the offensive line was outstanding against a defense that entered with 11 sacks through two games. 

Things don't get any easier for Columbus. Up next is the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 for the second straight week in St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), which took over the top spot after putting a running clock on DeSoto (Texas) in a dominant 38-14 win. St. Thomas Aquinas hosts Columbus on Friday at 7 p.m.

Bishop Gorman dropped seven spots to No. 8 this week. 

Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) jumped up two spots to No. 4 after a 21-20 win over Centennial (Corona, Calif.). 

Ca'ron Williams continued to be a thorn in Centennial's side as his 30-yard pick-six to close out the third quarter was the difference. Williams has five career interceptions against Centennial in four games and has returned two for scores. Sophomore running back Adrian Petero led the way on offense rushing for 111 yards and a touchdown. 

Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) was a big mover this week going from No. 14 to No. 7 after an impressive 24-7 win over Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.). The defense dominated and Jaxsen Stokes accounted for 228 total yards and a score. 

Allen (Texas) made a big jump up six spots to No. 10 after posting a 26-7 win over Duncanville (Texas). The defense never allowed the Panthers to get comfortable as they finished with eight sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Ty Snell completed 15 of 23 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns to go with 15 carries for 62 yards. Up next is DeSoto on Friday. 

There were five new teams in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings as No. 21 Thomas County Central (Thomasville, Ga.), No. 23 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.), No. 24 Central (Miami, Fla.) and No. 25 Lee County (Leesburg, Ga.) join Columbus.
