Who is Alabama's next elite defensive lineman of the Nick Saban era?

The answer may be found just across the state border in Columbus, Ga.

Carver (Columbus, Ga.) defensive lineman Mekhi Brown, an Alabama commit, is a 6-foot-2, 220-pound defensive end who gave a verbal pledge to the Crimson Tide way back in April, 2013.

Brown made 56 tackles (14 for loss) and 11 sacks last fall as a junior. He also forced four fumbles.

The 247Composite ranks Brown as the nation's No. 61 recruit overall, No. 4 at his position.

He's part of an Alabama recruiting class that features several other standout defensive prospects, but Brown is the best of the bunch on the defensive line.

That's probably why other programs are trying to poach Brown away from Alabama.

Brown recently took an official visit to Notre Dame, his second trip to South Bend since the summer.

However, there's no indication that Brown will be defecting from Alabama. If he does, it may not be to Notre Dame but Georgia, as Brown's 247 Crystal Ball has one prediction of him ending up in Athens.

Whether it's Tuscaloosa, South Bend or Athens, Brown will make a difference-maker at the next level.
