Video: Top 25 national baseball rankings See who leads the nation as the season winds down.
Now that another Nebraska prep baseball season is in the books, we went back and combed through our baseball statistics database in order to display what we believe to be the top 10 single-game pitching performances in the Cornhusker State this spring.
And we were not disappointed.
Norfolk's Gavin Schultz leads off this week's Top 10 with what may be Nebraska's only no-hitter in 2019. On May 3, Schultz blanked Omaha Bryan 5-0 after tossing seven innings of hitless ball and allowing just one walk. The senior right-hander fanned 11 Bryan swatters in the only seven-inning, 10 or more strikeout no-hitter reported in our database this spring.
Schultz also secured the No. 3 spot after allowing just one South Sioux City hit in a narrow 2-1 victory April 23. The Panther ace walked four batters and fanned 10 Cardinals hitters.
Platte Valley's Hunter Washburn earned the runner-up spot this week after throwing seven innings of no-hit ball in a 4-3 marathon win over Fort Calhoun in April. Washburn pitched innings six through 12 of the five-hour, 16-inning contest. The junior walked three batters, while striking out 11 in the middle innings of the contest.
Omaha Gross Catholic's Nolan Lewandowski and Adam Eggert of Plattsmouth round out the Top 5 in the Nos. 4 and 5 spots respectively after fanning 21 batters collectively. Lewandowski gave up just two hits over seven innings, and didn't allow a walk, while throwing 86 pitches in a 3-0 win over Fort Calhoun. Eggert allowed the same numbers after throwing 92 pitches in a 3-2 win over Omaha South.
In order to be considered for this week's Top 10, a pitcher had to throw at least seven innings in a game and fan 10 or more batters.
