MaxPreps football editor breaks down the week's biggest games.
The Panthers broke open a close game with three rushing touchdowns in the third quarter, one each from
Blake Corum (5 yards), quarterback
John Griffith (4 yards) and
Lamar Patterson (12 yards), to improve to 5-1, while St. Joseph Regional dropped to 3-1.
Griffith opened the scoring with an 11-yard touchdown pass to
Denylon Morrissette late in the first quarter. The play was was well covered but Morrisette made a spectacular one-hand catch and somehow kept one foot down in the left corner of the end zone.
The home team came in averaging almost 40 points per game, but couldn't get anything going against a St. Frances Academy team that won its 28th game in 29 tries. Its lone loss was to No. 1 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) two weeks ago in California.
Since that loss, the Panthers haven't allowed a point, outscoring two opponents 77-0. This was the only matchup this week of two Top 25 teams.
