High school football rankings: Bryce Underwood, Belleville rejoin MaxPreps Top 25

Belleville (Mich.) beat Saline (Mich.) 65-14 over the weekend in the second round of the MHSAA Division 1 playoffs for its 36th consecutive victory. Five-star junior quarterback Bryce Underwood completed 21 of 25 passes for 312 yards and four scores, helping the Tigers become one of two new teams to join this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings.

The back-to-back Division 1 state champs re-enter at No. 24 with Northville up next on Friday with a spot in the semifinals on the line. Belleville has outscored opponents 535-67 this season.

Serra (San Mateo, Calif.) was the other new team to join the MaxPreps Top 25 at No. 25. The 10-0 Padres head into the the playoffs winning by an average margin of 32.5 points per game. They have represented Northern California in the CIF Open Division state championship the last two years and are the favorites to be selected again with a section title victory.

In the biggest game last week, Navi Bruzon and Liberty (Peoria, Ariz.) beat Centennial (Peoria, Ariz.) 36-17, handing the Coyotes their first loss of the season. Bruzon completed 17 of 24 passes for 371 yards and three touchdowns to go with 139 yards on the ground. The Lions clinched the No. 1 seed in the AIA Open Division playoffs and finished the regular season 9-1. They have won five in a row and moved up three spots to No. 22 in this week's national rankings.

Georgia's AAAAAAA playoff games get underway this week with five MaxPreps Top 25 teams in action The brackets feature the most ranked teams in any postseason tournament in the country. No. 8 Mill Creek (Hoschton) opens with Osborne (Marietta), No. 11 Colquitt County (Moultrie) faces Parkview (Lilburn), No. 12 Walton (Marietta) takes on Mountain View (Lawrenceville), No. 16 Buford locks horns with Wheeler (Marietta), and No. 17 Carrollton hosts Harrison (Kennesaw).

Florida and Texas begin postseason action this week. 

No. 2 Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood) is the heavy favorite in Florida's 1M field and that bracket does not get started until Nov. 17. No. 10 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) is going for its fifth consecutive state title and faces Plantation in Friday's first round of the 3M bracket. No. 13 Norland (Miami) and No. 20 American Heritage (Plantation) are both in the 2M tournament. The Vikings open up against St. Brendan (Miami) and the Patriots host North Broward Prep (Coconut Creek) in the first round.

In Texas, No. 6 North Shore (Houston) and No. 15 Duncanville are both in the Class 6A Division 1 field. These two have met in the state championship in four of the last five years. Duncanville, which open against Hutto, won it last season while North Shore took home the trophy in 2018, 2019 and 2021. The Mustangs face Deer Park on Thursday.

No. 7 DeSoto is in the Class 6A Division 2 bracket and opens against Harker Heights on Friday. The defending state champs have won 16 games in a row and had the beat Duncanville 49-35 on Oct. 28.
