Kentucky crowns just one champion for boys and girls basketball and this is the first time North Oldham has ever qualified for the Sweet 16 tournament.
Friday against Butler, Rondo had 14 points and five assists at Rupp Arena in Lexington. It's an arena that his father knows well, having gone to Kentucky for two seasons before becoming a first-round selection in the 2006 NBA Draft.
Pierre, a 5-foot-11 point guard in the Class of 2030 is in his second year on varsity and already has a deep bag of tricks. Against Butler, he hit jump shots off the dribble and drove to the rim with ease, scoring or drawing a foul to get to the line.
While the Mustangs have never made it this far, the coaching staff has plenty of high-level experience. Head coach David Levitch played college basketball at Louisville from 2013-17 and played in the Elite Eight for the Cardinals. Assistant coach Terry Howard also played at Louisville and helped the Cardinals get to the Final Four in 1975.
