It may have been ice-cold in Minnesota this week, but it was red-hot in at least two gymnasiums.
Triton (Dodge Center, Minn.) senior guard
Logan Spitzack exploded for a career-high 60 points during an 88-76 overtime loss to
Cannon Falls. The 6-foot-2 standout made 24 baskets and his 47 attempts are believed to be a state record. His point total is tied for seventh in state history.
Spitzack, who entered the game with a 23.6 scoring average, was forced to step up because injuries and illness had limited his team to seven players. Three fouled out in the overtime, leaving just four players to finish the game.
* Another senior guard, 6-3
Zach Lofton, nearly matched Spitzack by pouring in a career-high 53 points as
Columbia Heights defeated Washburn (Minneapolis, Minn.), 92-78. It marked the sixth time this season that Lofton has scored at least 40 points.
