Video: Top 10 Games of the Week
MaxPreps previews some of the top matchups in the nation this weekend.Martin (Arlington, Texas) at Skyline (Dallas)Why it's big: Martin wants to back up its impressive win over then-No. 5 DeSoto by beating another perennial Metroplex power. Martin, which debuted at No. 14 in this week's Xcellent 25, is led by running back
Nick Smith, who ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns against DeSoto. It was the three-star senior's ninth-straight game with at least 100 yards rushing.
Texas Tech commit
Da'Leon Ward led Skyline to a 23-12 win in its season opener against South Grand Prairie. The three-star running back had 189 rushing yards and a pair of scores,
according to the Dallas Morning News. It was the Raiders' 20th-consecutive regular-season win. The last team to beat Skyline in a non-playoff game? It was Martin, in game two of the 2013 season.
Names to watch: Hunter Donnelly, a 6-foot-1, 215-pound linebacker who transferred to Martin during the offseason, made an impressive debut against DeSoto. The three-star Colorado State commit recorded a team-high 14 tackles.
It's apparent that Texas Tech is cultivating a good relationship with first-year Skyline coach Derick Roberson and his staff. The Red Raiders have nabbed three senior commits from the school including Ward, three-star defensive tackle
Joseph Wallace and three-star offensive guard/defensive end prospect
Clarence Henderson.
