Though the school is small, the Lions set out to do big things.
"We gave ourselves the goal that we were going to try to break it," Fayetteville head coach Jake Diggs told the Fayette County Record. "The guys were pumped."
The Lions didn't attempt a two-point shot and made 40 of 98 3-point attempts. Every player in uniform that night made at least one bucket from distance.
The team grabbed 30 offensive rebounds and kicked each out for another crack at the record.
Kole Schmitt led the way with 39 points on 13 threes. Mason Fenhaus had 12 for 36 points and Kasen Kocian drained 10 for 30 points. Cole Jurecka had a pair of triples while Jack Schley, Luke Beseda and Dylan Henneke all added one.
Fayetteville (24-6) drained 16 from distance in the first quarter and eclipsed the mark when Schmitt canned a left-wing triple midway through the fourth quarter. The Lions capped the night with a Kocian logo 3-pointer near the end of the game to get to the final score of 120-25.
Under Diggs, the program is looking for its first state title after reaching the Conference 1A Division 1 regional finals last season and the state semifinals in 2023-24.
