Excelling in high school volleyball can be difficult. Even more so carrying a famous last name as the daughter, sister or niece of a current or former professional athlete.
But these current players have found a way to make their own name with impressive stat lines, championships and national rankings.
The list includes former athletes and celebrities, NBA and NFL Hall of Famers and even a home run king.
Nylah Bibby, Saguaro (Scottsdale, Ariz.)
Father: Mike Bibby. The former NBA point guard spent time with six teams including the Sacramento Kings and is in his first season as head coach for Sacramento State. He previously coached high school basketball at Shadow Mountain and Hillcrest Prep. Bibby's career totals include nearly 15,000 points and more than 5,500 assists.
Daughter: A 5-foot-10 junior outside hitter committed to the University of Arizona, Nylah had 255 kills last season. As a freshman at Desert Mountain, she tallied 232 kills. She wears No. 10 just as her father did during most of his NBA career.
Sayge Chandler, Allen (Texas)
Father: Tyson Chandler. A 2011 NBA champion, Chandler spent 19 seasons in the league with eight teams. He was a McDonald's All American in 2001 and two-time California Mr. Basketball. He finished his career with more than 9,500 points and 10,000 rebounds.
Daughter: The 6-2 middle blocker is having a breakout season for the ranked Eagles. She has posted 58 kills in 54 sets along with 35 blocks as Allen is off to a 23-4 start.
Alyssa Dampier, Madison-Ridgeland Academy (Madison, Miss.)
Father: Erick Dampier. A two-time high school state champion in Mississippi, he was the 10th overall pick in 1996 by Indiana out of Mississippi State and played 16 seasons in the NBA. Dampier scored 7,309 points and grabbed 7,008 rebounds.
Daughter: A two-sport standout who also excels on the basketball court, the Southern Miss volleyball commit has 38 kills for the Patriots along with a team-high 27 blocks. The senior has 362 career kills
Myah Favre, Our Lady Academy (Bay St. Louis, Miss.)
Uncle: Brett Favre. A Super Bowl champion and three-time NFL MVP, Favre spent 20 seasons in the NFL. He threw for more than 71,000 yards and 500 touchdowns.
Niece: After finishing her junior season with 547 kills, Myah is off to a hot start for the Crescents with 299 kills in 58 sets. After earning Class 3A Player of the Year honors as a junior, she has 318, assists, 120 digs and 30 blocks this season. She previously played basketball as a sophomore.
Kapri Garnett, Campbell Hall (North Hollywood, Calif.)
Father: Kevin Garnett. The Big Ticket is a NBA champion, 15-time All-Star and league MVP in 2004. He played for 22 seasons, scoring 26,071 points and grabbing 14,662 rebounds. He was drafted straight out of high school with the fifth pick in 1995 by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Daughter: Headed to the University of Michigan, Kapri is leading the Vikings in kills this season with 78 in 25 sets. She has added 12 blocks.
Mother: Bethany Frankel. A reality TV star who has appeared on The Real Housewives of New York.
Daughter: A sophomore for the Panthers, she is on junior varsity after recently moving from Connecticut.
Father: Bobby Hoying. The quarterback played six seasons in the NFL with the Eagles and Raiders after being drafted in the third round of the 1996 draft. He played prep ball in Ohio and is third in Ohio State passing yardage.
Daughter: The senior has 110 kills on the season for the Eagles and just surpassed 1,000 in her career. She led Bishop Watterson in kills as a sophomore and junior and played with sister Ava as a freshman. She is following in her father's footsteps and will play for Ohio State next season.
Eva Jeffries, Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.)
Father: Jared Jeffries. The 11th pick in the 2002 NBA Draft played 11 years for the Wizards, Knicks, Rockets and Blazers, scoring 3,003 points in his career. He played prep ball at Bloomington North and stayed in-state to play collegiately for the Hoosiers. In 2002, he led Indiana on a Cinderella run to the NCAA title game. He dropped 24 points with 15 boards against No. 1 Duke in the regional semis.
Daughter: The 6-3 opposite has 103 kills in 33 sets for the No. 4 Trailblazers. A MaxPreps All-American last year, she had a breakout season with 415 kills.
Finley Krystkowiak, Torrey Pines (San Diego, Calif.)
Father: Larry Krystkowiak. A former NBA player and coach, he had a nine-year professional career. He was drafted in the second round with the 28th overall pick in 1986 by the Chicago Bulls. After the NBA, Krystkowiak coached in college and the pros, including stints with Milwaukee and Utah.
Daughter: A Penn State commit, the 6-4 junior had 484 kills (4.8 per set) last season for the 24-7 Falcons. This season, she has already dropped 49 in the first four matches for Torrey Pines. She is the No. 13 ranked player in her class according to Prep Dig and No. 5 in California.
Samantha Krystkowiak, Torrey Pines
Father: Larry Krystkowiak
Daughter: Finley's twin sister is a Stanford beach volleyball commit who had 42 kills last season for the indoor squad. She has pounded 25 kills this season in 14 sets.
Naomi Livings, Prestonwood Christian (Plano, Texas)
Father: Nate Livings. A BCS National Champion with LSU in 2003, the guard played six seasons in the NFL with the Bengals and Cowboys.
Daughter: Naomi hasn't played this season after suffering a MCL injury. As a freshman, she hammered 82 kills in 49 sets on a Lions team that produced MaxPreps National Player of the Year Macaria Spears.
Father: Nate Livings
Daughter: A sophomore and youngest of the Livings sisters (older sister Jadyn graduated last year), Nia has 38 kills and 23 blocks for the Lions
Nyla Livings, Prestonwood Christian
Father: Nate Livings
Daughter: Twin sister of Naomi, she has 236 kills this season and is hitting .453. Last season, she tallied 169 kills for the Lions, fourth-best on a stacked squad that finished 36-4 and No. 4 in the final MaxPreps Top 25.
Hanna McGinest, Sierra Canyon
Father: Willie McGinest. The three-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots spent 12 seasons in the NFL finishing his career in Cleveland. He went to Long Beach Poly and USC before being drafted No. 4 overall in 1994.
Daughter: She is leading the team with 145 kills in 34 sets while hitting nearly 40 percent. A MaxPreps All-American last season, she had 452 kills and could get close to 1,000 career kills this season.
Laycee McGrady, Fort Bend Christian Academy (Sugar Land, Texas)
Father: Tracy McGrady. The 1997 McDonald's All American went directly to the NBA after high school, spending 16 years in the association. He is a seven-time All-Star, two-time scoring champion who finished with 18,381 points.
Daughter: McGrady has 62 kills and a team-high 25 blocks on the season. As a sophomore, she pounded 55 kills in 46 sets for the 27-3 Eagles as they look to get back to the TAPPS 5A championship game.
Marlo and Monroe McGwire, Corona del Mar (Newport Beach, Calif.)
Father: Mark McGwire. One of the pre-eminent sluggers of his generation, "Big Mac" burst on the scene with the Oakland A's and clubbed 583 career home runs. The two-time World Series champion was part of the single-season home run chase with Sammy Sosa in 1998. He broke Roger Maris' record of 61 before finishing with 70 round-trippers.
Daughters: On the junior varsity squad, Marlo and Monroe are two in a set of triplets along with Monet born in 2010.
Caitlin Prior, Academy of Our Lady of Peace (San Diego, Calif.)
Father: Mark Prior. A four-year Major League veteran, he spent his entire career
with the Chicago Cubs. He was 42-29 with a 3.51 ERA and 757 strikeouts
and won a World Series in 2020. He is now a coach with the Los Angele
Dodgers.
Daughter: The 5-7 senior setter doesn't have stats listed on MaxPreps but the Pilots are 5-3 on the young season. She helped the Pilots to a 26-9 record in the San Diego Section.
Harper Smith, Campbell Hall
Mother: Tiffani Thiessen. Teen star of "Saved By The Bell" and later on "Beverly Hills, 90210," Thiessen was the 1987 Miss Junior America. She is married to author Brady Smith.
Daughter: Harper plays junior varsity for the Vikings.
Father: C.J. Watson. He played high school basketball at Bishop Gorman before a standout career at Tennessee. Undrafted in 2006, he played overseas before making his way back the NBA for 11 seasons.
Daughter: A multi-year MaxPreps All-American committed to Pitt, Ayanna has 56 kills in nine sets for the Gaels after missing the beginning of the season playing for USA Volleyball's U19 team at the 2025 FIVB Women’s U21 World Championship. For her career, Watson should top 2,000 career kills this season as Gorman looks to repeat as Class 5A champion.
Lailaa Williams, Campbell Hall
Father: Shelden Williams. The nine-year NBA veteran was the fifth overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft by the Atlanta Hawks. He played collegiately at Duke and is the school's all-time leader in blocked shots and rebounds.
Mother: Candace Parker. Regarded as one of the greatest WNBA players of all-time, she is a two-time champion, Finals MVP and two-time league MVP. She was the first overall pick in 2008 after playing her college ball at Tennessee.
Daughter: A freshman on the squad that won the 2023 Division II state title, Lailaa doesn't have stats posted yet this year. She also plays basketball and beach volleyball for Campbell Hall.
Shaye Witherspoon, Lafayette (Wildwood, Mo.)
Father: Will Witherspoon. Former NFL linebacker while her mother, Rebecca, is a
former standout Division I volleyball player for the University of
Georgia.
Daughter: Leads the Lancers early on in kills with 50 in 11 sets. The junior is approaching 1,000 career kills as the Lancers are off to a 5-0 start.
