Grant Gunnell set a Texas-sized record on Friday.
The senior quarterback from
St. Pius X (Houston, Texas) is now the Texas record holder for career touchdown passes, after breaking the mark of 184 set by Travis Quintanilla of Refugio.
The Arizona commit entered Friday's game with Antonian Prep (San Antonio) with 178 career scoring passes, but by the second quarter, he had thrown seven TDs en route to a 55-14 victory. St. Pius (8-1) led 48-14 at halftime.
Gunnell, who now has 185 career touchdown passes, broke the state career passing yardage mark two weeks ago during a 34-14 win over Concordia Lutheran (Tomball). That game ended midway through the third quarter because of lightning and by then Gunnell had already thrown for 467 yards and four touchdown, pushing his career total to 14,577 yards.
Hunter Lile of Booker had the previous mark of 14,408 yards.
