Two intriguing third-round playoff rematches from a season ago highlight this weekend's MaxPreps Texas Top 25 schedule.
No. 6 Westfield faces No. 11 Skyline (Dallas) in a Class 5A Division I Region II semifinal set for 3 p.m. Saturday at Georgetown ISD Stadium.
Westfield (12-0), a Houston-area power, took an unbeaten record into the Sweet 16 round a year ago against Skyline and owned a 16-7 halftime lead, only to see the Raiders come from behind for a 38-33 victory.
For the second straight year, Skyline takes an 11-1 record into its regional playoff. The only blemish this time is a 27-24 road loss to Martin (Arlington) in the second game of the season.
No. 4 Carroll (Southlake) and No. 21 Trinity (Euless) collide in a 5A-DI Region I semifinal 4 p.m. Friday at Arlington's AT&T Stadium. The two Tarrant County foes staged a memorable playoff game in 2006 with Carroll pulling out a 22-21 victory before 46,339 fans at Texas Stadium.
Carroll got the better of last year's third round match-up, 16-7.
Since 2002, Carroll (five) and Trinity (three) have combined for eight state titles.
Both teams stumbled early this season but have been on a roll the last two months. Carroll (11-1) lost to Allen in its opener. Trinity (10-2) started with back-to-back losses to Jenks (Oklahoma) and No. 1 DeSoto.
