Perkins has a 1.03 ERA and .571 batting average despite having a prosthetic leg. She was born without a fibula in her left leg, a rare condition known as fibular hemimelia recently detailed by the
Las Vegas Review-Journal.
The Las Vegas standout has undergone five surgeries, including the most recent coming after eighth grade, to help prevent her knee from sliding out of place. Perkins told the Review-Journal that she shouldn't need anymore surgeries.
Desert Oasis (14-2) earned a bye in the first round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
Perkins is a big reason for that success with 17 extra-base hits and excellent control, striking out nearly two batters per inning as a junior. The right-hander made the varsity squad as a freshman and shined as a hitter, batting .367 with four RBI and six doubles.
As a sophomore she started pitching and recorded a 6-3 record with 43 strikeouts and a 4.20 ERA. The Diamondbacks reached the second round of the playoffs and her bat started to explode. Along with a .516 batting average, she had 27 RBI, 11 doubles, two triples and a home run in 2025.
Perkins started 2026 by not allowing an earned run in her first four outings. In those 12 innings she allowed just five hits while striking out 25 batters. She had six hits herself in those games and drove in 11 runs with five extra-base knocks. The .571 hitter has 12 doubles, 28 runs batted in and three home runs on the season.
Desert Oasis will face the winner of
Cimarron-Memorial (Las Vegas) vs.
