Video: Kiffen Cook's highlights vs. Southwest High School
Watch the Perkins County tight end in action.
It's automatic every Monday during the football season. High school football fans from all corners of the state login to their computers hoping the school they are loyal to moved up in the rankings, took over the top spot, or made the climb into the rankings.
But, what about the national rankings? Oh what a coupe that would be, to find your alma mater alongside traditional powers Bishop Gorman, IMG Academy or Mater Dei. Heck, landing a Top 100 ranking would be pretty cool too.
Well, this week we did that work for you. Scouring through the MaxPreps Freeman Computer Rankings, we unearthed the current MaxPreps national ranking for each member of Nebraska's Top 10 11 and 6/8-Man football teams.
While the Cornhusker State is not represented in the Top 25, in either category, all of Nebraska's Top 10 6/8-Man football teams made the Top 100. Top-ranked and defending Class B champion Elkhorn South moved up two spots to 226th in the 11-Man rankings following a 10-point win over Gretna last weekend to lead the way for the big schools.
Second to the Storm in Nebraska is Omaha North and the Class A Vikings are representing well after knocking off playoff bound Lincoln Pius X 34-7 to claim the No. 364 spot out of the 14,590 schools listed in our 11-Man rankings. Omaha Skutt Catholic, a challenger to take back the Class B title from the Storm, round out Nebraska's Top 3 at No. 835th nationally.
Wahoo took advantage of its 21-0 shutout of cross-town rival, and former Cornhusker State No. 1 Bishop Neumann, to leap 581 spots to 981st. The Warriors were the recipients of Nebraska's largest leap in the national poll this week for the members of this Top 10.
Perkins County is Nebraska's top dog in the 6/8-Man ranks and the Plainsmen held onto a Top 30 spot this week following a 64-6 win over Morrill. Defending D1 champion Bruning-Davenport/Shickley shut out a very good Lawrence-Nelson squad 36-0 to climb 17 spots to 35th, while Neligh-Oakdale rose nine places to 45th nationally after outscoring Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family 55-16 last weekend.
Riverside, the only 6-Man club to crack Nebraska's Top 10 at No. 9, rose 13 spots to rank 86th out of the 1,572 schools that are included in our 6/8/9-Man rankings.
As you browse through this week's Top 10, listed on the top line is the school, its won-loss record in parenthesis, the school's point differential this fall and its MaxPreps power ranking.
