As the saying goes, it's not about where you start, but where you finish. This is very true. Since the beginning of the 2023 Sac-Joaquin Section high school softball season can't officially begin until Feb. 25, we can at least give 25 teams who we think will be vying for a section title this season.
After two years without playoff play, the return of postseason action in 2022 was a welcome sight for all.
Sheldon (Sacramento) won its ninth Division 1 championship, tying
Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) for the most overall section titles dating back to 1976.
Del Oro (Loomis) captured the Division II title, its eighth and first since 2002. On the other end of the spectrum,
Vista del Lago (Folsom),
Dixon, and
Hilmar won their first section titles, while
Woodland Christian and
Big Valley Christian (Modesto) continued their small school dominance.
During our research for this year's softball season, we saw several transfers and teams dealing with early-season injuries. The below 25 teams are based on who we see as top-ranked at the end of the season, not who gets off to the best start. MaxPreps will also maintain computer rankings throughout the regular season.
