1. DeSoto
Coach: Todd Peterman
2014 finish: 10-2
Team preview

DeSoto will once again be one of the nation's most exciting teams. Few programs have the speed, skill and fast-pace offense to match the Eagles. Former defensive coordinator and new head coach Todd Peterman will have a shot to guide the program to its first state title. Tristen Wallace, an Ohio State commit, is back at quarterback. DeSoto will face Arlington Martin, IMG Academy (Fla.) and Cibolo Steele before it even begins district play.

2. Allen
Coach: Tom Westerberg
2014 finish: 16-0; 6A D1 state champion
Team preview

Allen has captured three consecutive state titles in Texas' largest classification. Even without the historically great Kyler Murray, it will have a shot to tack on a fourth. It returns several star players, including offensive lineman Gregory Little and defensive back Jaylon Jones. Over a dozen starters are back in total. Seth Green, a transfer from Minnesota, could make an impact at quarterback.

3. Katy
Coach: Gary Joseph
2014 finish: 14-2
Team preview

Katy's last two seasons have ended in similar fashion, with state title game setbacks at the hands of Cedar Hill. It seems as if 2015 could be the season Katy takes home an eighth state title. Garrett Doiron is back behind center and Kyle Porter's presence at running back will help ease the loss of Rodney Anderson. Tony Mullins, the team's top receiving option last fall, is also back. The defense, which is always stout, was young in 2014. It could be superb this season.

4. Manvel
Coach: Kirk Martin
2014 finish: 13-1
Team preview

Manvel rattled off 13 consecutive victories last fall before a season-ending loss to Katy. It returns some of the state's most talented players at several positions, and all indications are that Manvel will be a major state title threat. D'Eriq King, who tossed for over 3,000 yards as a junior, will lead the offense. Manvel possesses perhaps the best backup quarterback in the country: Kyle Trask, a Florida commit. Safety Deontay Anderson, a four-star recruit, leads the defense.

5. Cedar Hill
Coach: Joey McGuire
2014 finish: 14-2; 6A D1 state champion
Team preview

It's easy to point to the pieces that Cedar Hill loses (Damarkus Lodge, Justin McMillan, Aca'cedric Ware) and believe that the team is due for some regression. Perhaps the two-time defending state champion will drop off, but it won't be a steep fall. Buzz around new junior quarterback Avery Davis suggests he could be even better than his predecessor. Kaegun Williams, a transfer from Stephenville, will help provide Cedar Hill with big-play potential in 2015.
