Ohio kicker wins the day with game-saving tackle

Kickers usually save the day by booting the game-winning field goal. But Cole Mericle gave Lima Senior (Ohio) a game-winning miracle last week that will go down in Ohio high school football folklore.

The Spartans led St. Francis de Sales 25-24 with three seconds remaining after Mericle had just booted the go-ahead field goal.

The Knights fielded the kickoff and pure madness ensued. Five laterals later, St. Francis de Sales was streaking up the sideline and the Knights looked as though they were going to steal one.

All they had to do was beat Mericle, the kicker.

But he had other plans.

The junior chased the ball carrier down from his own 35-yard line, taking a great angle and incredibly made the tackle at the 2-yard line. Game over.

The amazing play also snapped a four-game losing streak for the Spartans.
