Tournament season is underway in high school baseball with a number of events featuring teams from multiple states scheduled to take place in March and April. Here's a look at the the 10 best for 2017.
1. National High School Invitational
March 29-April 1 – Cary, N.C.The sixth annual NHSI might be the best one yet. The event features teams from 10 different states, including 11 schools ranked in the MaxPreps Preseason Top 100. Leading the way is No. 1
Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) along with defending tournament champion
Huntington Beach (Calif.), Arizona state champion
Hamilton (Chandler), Florida powerhouse
American Heritage (Plantation) and Southern California juggernauts
Orange Lutheran (Orange) and
South Hills (West Covina). The event also includes
Brother Rice (Chicago, Ill.) and
Malvern Prep (Malvern, Pa.), two of the top teams from the midwest and northeast.
2. Boras Classic
April 10-13 – Sacramento, Calif.
April 18-21 – Orange County, Calif.Split into a South and North division, the Boras Classic is the closest thing to a California state championship tournament. This year's south tournament features Orange Lutheran,
El Toro (Lake Forest),
Chatsworth, defending champion
Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach),
JSerra Catholic (San Juan Capistrano),
Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) featuring No. 1 prospect Hunter Greene, Huntington Beach and
Mater Dei (Santa Ana). Playing in the North are
Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills),
Bellarmine College Prep (San Jose),
St. Mary's (Stockton),
Serra (San Mateo),
Stockdale (Bakersfield),
Davis and
Saint Francis (Mountain View).
3. Perfect Game Showdown
March 9-11 – Cartersville, Ga.Features a number of top teams from the South, including
Blessed Trinity (Roswell, Ga.),
Buford (Ga.),
Cartersville (Ga.),
Cullman (Ala.),
Etowah (Woodstock, Ga.),
James Clemens (Madison, Ala.),
Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.),
Sparkman (Harvest, Ala.) and
Winder-Barrow (Winder, Ga.).
4. San Diego Lions
April 10-13 – San Diego, Calif.The Lions tournament is one
of the largest and oldest tournaments in the nation. With nine
different brackets and over 130 teams, the Lions tournament features
nearly every team in San Diego County, along with many others. The
Classic Division is the strongest, featuring defending section champions
Granite Hills (El Cajon) and
Cathedral Catholic (San Diego), along with powerhouses like
Eastlake (Chula Vista),
Elk Grove,
El Camino Real (Woodland Hills),
La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) and
Rancho Bernardo (San Diego).

5. National Classic
April 10-13, Orange County, Calif.Features defending MaxPreps National Champion
Buchanan (Clovis, Calif.), along with heavyweights like JSerra,
Clovis North (Fresno, Calif.),
IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) and
Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.).
6. IMG Academy National Classic
March 20-23 – Bradenton, Fla.IMG
Academy hosts two different National Classic events, one in March and
one in April. The one scheduled for March 20-23 looks to be the most
interesting with Florida Class 3A champion
Canterbury (Fort Myers, Fla.) attending along
with
Poly Prep Country Day (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
Christ Presbyterian Academy (Nashville, Tenn.),
Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.) and the host team IMG Academy.
7. Rawlings Select #1
March 23-25 – Cartersville, Ga.One of three Rawlings sponsored tournaments hosted by Perfect Game. This tournament features Cullman,
Lone Peak (Highland, Utah),
St. Rita (Chicago), and
DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.).
8. Anaheim Lions
March 25-29 – Anaheim, Calif.Scheduled for late March, the Lions tournament features
teams mostly from the Southern Section of California, including
defending Southern Section Division I champion
Murrieta Mesa (Murrieta) and
defending tournament champion
Sonora (La Habra). Other teams included
Southern Section Division VI champion
Sage Hill (Newport Beach), Oregon Class 6A
champion
Jesuit (Portland) and highly-regarded teams like
West Linn (Ore.),
Valor Christian (Highlands Ranch, Colo.),
Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.)
and
Galena (Reno, Nev.).
9. Coach Bob National Invitational
March 27-April 1 – Anthem, Ariz.For sheer size, Bob's National ranks among the largest tournaments in the nation with over 75 teams expected to compete this year. It annually features the best teams in Arizona, along with other teams from the Southwest.
10. HSBN March Madness Shootout
April 8-15 – Multiple locationsThis tournament features the top programs in South Florida. Although brackets have not been announced, last year's tournament featured the likes off
Stoneman Douglas (Parkland), Archbishop McCarthy,
St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale) and
Monsignor Pace (Miami).
