One day after Justin Fields threw for 385 yards and six touchdowns for Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl (also known as the College Football Playoff semifinals), the program's potential signal caller of the future attempted some one-upsmanship in the Texas high school football state playoffs.
Quinn Ewers of
Southlake Carroll piled up 450 yards through the air with six touchdown passes Saturday in a 59-35 win over Trinity (Euless).
Ewers, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound junior regarded as the top quarterback prospect in the Class of 2022, completed 35 of 39 passes to lead the Dragons to the Class 6A Division 1 semifinals. Carroll (11-1) is ranked No. 25 in this week's MaxPreps Top 25.

The Buckeye pledge's favorite target was Minnesota signee
Brady Boyd, who reeled in 17 receptions for 261 yards and four scores.
Following a decommitment from Texas, Ewers announced he was headed to Columbus in November. He was named the MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year in 2019 after throwing for 4,003 yards and 45 touchdowns. He added another 568 yards rushing and nine touchdowns while leading the Dragons to a 13-1 record and No. 17 final national ranking in the MaxPreps Top 25.
Saturday's outing against Trinity was just the sixth game of the season for Ewers, who has been hampered by an undisclosed injury. In those games, he has thrown for 1,923 yards and 24 touchdowns against just three interceptions.
