Four California teams will have an impact on the final MaxPreps Xcellent 25 Volleyball Rankings presented by the National Guard.
No. 2 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) defeated 37-8 Las Lomas (Walnut Creek) by a 3-0 score to move in to the California Interscholastic Federation's Division II semi-finals to be held Tuesday night. In the semifinals, the unbeaten Monarchs will play 34-5 El Camino (Sacramento), a 3-2 Saturday winner over 30-6 Maria Carillo (Santa Rosa). Mitty defeated El Camino, 2-0, on Oct. 20, the only time the teams met this season.
By winning Saturday night, Marymount (Los Angeles) and Redondo Union (Redondo Beach) earned the right to face one another in Tuesday's D-I semifinals. It will mark the fourth time the teams have faced off this season.
Marymount advanced with a 3-0 win over Clovis West (Fresno) and Redondo knocked Torrey Pines (San Diego) out of the Top 25 with a 3-0 sweep. Torrey Pines, ranked as high as No. 4 this season, finished the season 31-5.
After losing to 36-4 Redondo Union twice (2-0 on Sept. 15 and 3-1 on Oct. 1), Marymount defeated Redondo Union, 3-2, on Nov. 17 to win the Southern Section D-I title. Marymount, ranked No. 12, has won nine in a row.
St. Francis will play 41-6 Granite Bay for the third time this season. The Troubadours won the first two meetings, 3-0 on Aug. 27 and 3-0 in the Sac-Joaquin Section finals on Nov. 15.
The winner of the Marymount-Redondo Union match will play in the California state finals on Dec. 1 against the winner of the St. Francis-Granite Bay match. The winner of the Archbishop-El Camino match will play the winner of the 28-7 Martin Luther King (Riverside)-La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) match on Dec. 1. LCC is 28-10 on the season.
Dakota (Macomb, Mich.) won its final 21 matches and the Michigan A Division title to finish the season at 43-3 and moves into the Top 25 for the first time this season.
