When it comes to making your mascot name as big and ferocious as possible, it's hard to beat what they did at
Carbon (Price, Utah). They embraced Dinos as their mascot name.
The Dinos are extinct, that is true. But could there be a scarier mascot to go up against?
It's creative - as Carbon is the only Dinos in the nation - and it's a mascot name that is undoubtedly cool. The reasoning for the name also has a solid historical backing.
Central and Eastern Utah have a rich history when it comes to prehistoric remains. Dinosaur National Monument isn't too far away and the Utah State University College of Eastern Utah Prehistoric Museum features lots of dinosaur bones and other artifacts. When it comes to American states with the most finds (and different kinds of dinosaurs) Utah is right up at the top with states like Wyoming, Colorado and Montana.
They are not specifically referencing dinos made out of carbon, although carbon plays a huge role in just about everything in the universe - so it does work.
We definitely have to give props to the Dinos from Carbon High. It's unique, it has local ties and it lends itself to an awesome logo. And it's about as ferocious as possible.
