Our look-ahead to the 2025 season continues Feb. 10 with the release of Preseason MaxPreps. Find out who will begin the campaign as the No. 1-ranked team in America.
P — Seth Hernandez, Corona (Calif.)Hernandez heads a Corona team that could be the No. 1 team in the nation to start the 2025 season. He batted .352 with 34 RBI and eight home runs last year while posting a 9-0 record on the mound with 73 strikeouts and a 0.62 ERA. Named MaxPreps National Junior of the Year in 2024.
P — Kruz Schoolcraft, Sunset (Portland, Ore.)
Led Sunset to the Class 6A state championship game last year while posting a 10-1 record with a 0.39 ERA and 146 strikeouts in 71.2 innings pitched.
P — Brett Crossland, Mountain Pointe (Phoenix, Ariz.)
Led the Pride with an 8-1 record that included 94 strikeouts and a 2.24 ERA in 56.1 innings pitched.
P — Zion Theophilus, Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, Ohio)
Theophilus has Moeller primed for a high ranking to start the 2025 season after he went 9-0 last year with a 0.47 ERA and 72 strikeouts in 45 innings pitched.
P — Landon Harmon, East Union (Blue Springs, Miss.)
Harmon had 128 strikeouts in 78.1 innings with a 1.43 ERA. He also excelled on offense with a .398 batting average, 39 RBI and seven home runs.
P — Ethin Bingaman, Corona
The Ambassador League Player of the Year as a junior while at Arrowhead Christian, Bingaman transferred to Corona over the summer. He batted .506 with 29 RBI, nine doubles and seven home runs. As a pitcher, he was 4-4 with a 1.87 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 52.1 innings pitched.
P — Miguel Sime Jr., Poly Prep Country Day (Brooklyn)
Sime Jr. has moved up to No. 1 in the state by Perfect Game after after a strong summer that saw him hit 99 miles per hour on his fastball.
P — Noah Yoder, Atlee (Mechanicsville, Va.)
Yoder has hit up to 98 miles per hour on his fastball. He earned All-Group 4 honors as a junior and he is one of the top-rated pitchers in the class by Perfect Game.
P — Cameron Appenzeller, Glenwood (Chatham, Ill.)
Perhaps the top returning pitcher in Illinois, Appenzeller earned all-state honors and had a 6-0 record with a 0.64 ERA and 85 strikeouts in just 43 innings pitched.
P — Austin Weiss, Georgetown Prep (North Bethesda, Md.)
Selected to play in the Perfect Game All-American Classic, Weiss also played on the Team USA 18U squad that won the World Cup last summer. He also earned honorable mention All-Metro by the Washington Post.
C — Owen Jenkins, Lexington Catholic (Lexington, Ky.)
Jenkins earned all-state honors as a junior after batting .467 with 33 runs, 29 RBI, nine doubles, five home runs and one triple. He is rated the nation's top catcher by Perfect Game.
C — Trent Grindlinger, Huntington Beach (Calif.)
Grindlinger ranks No. 2 in the nation at catcher by Perfect Game. He batted .333 last year with 30 RBI and 13 doubles.
C — Zack Johnson, Bob Jones (Madison, Ala.)
Johnson was among the national leaders in RBI with 65. He was also named the Class 7A Hitter of the Year, batting .384 with 11 doubles, five home runs and three triples.
1B — Gavin Fien, Great Oak (Temecula, Calif.)
One of the top hitters for Team USA 18U last year in the World Cup, Fien batted .400 during the tournament with 11 RBI, three doubles and two triples. He batted .411 last year with 20 RBI, 12 doubles and three home runs.
1B — Braiden Reynolds, La Cueva (Albuquerque, N.M.)
Led the nation with 69 RBI and was the MaxPreps POY in New Mexico as a junior while leading the Bears to a state title. He batted .551 with 28 runs, 17 doubles, nine home runs and two triples. Also posted a 10-1 pitching record with 61 strikeouts in 61 innings pitched.
IF — Ethan Holliday, Stillwater (Okla.)
Tabbed by Perfect Game as the No. 1 player in the nation, Holliday could be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 MLB Draft just like his brother Jackson in 2022. Holliday batted .409 with 40 RBI and 12 home runs as a junior.
IF — Kayson Cunningham, Johnson (San Antonio, Texas)
Perfect Game lists Cunningham among its top five players in the nation this year. He was the San Antonio News Express POY as a junior as he batted .437 with 12 doubles, eight triples, 36 stolen bases and 37 walks.
IF — Billy Carlson, Corona
Ranked as one of the top shortstop prospects in the country by Perfect Game, Carlson earned MaxPreps Junior All-American honors last year after batting .367 with 29 runs, 21 RBI, 10 doubles, two triples and three home runs.
IF — Eli Willits, Fort Cobb-Broxton (Fort Cobb, Okla.)
Willits reclassified to the Class of 2025 after earning MaxPreps Sophomore All-American honors last year. He batted .604 last season with 10 home runs.
IF — Tate Southisene, Basic (Henderson, Nev.)
Southisene batted .576 with 49 RBI, 40 runs, 10 doubles, seven home runs and four triples while earning Class 5A Player of the Year honors in Southern Nevada.
IF — Coy James, Davie (Mocksville, N.C.)
A MaxPreps Junior All-American last year, James batted .413 with 29 runs, 14 RBI, nine doubles, two triples and two home runs.
OF — Sean Gamble, IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.)
Gamble batted .333 last year with 19 runs and 18 RBI and is ranked as the top player in the state of Florida by Perfect Game.
OF — Dean Moss, IMG Academy
Moss played in only 10 games last year but had the top batting average for the Ascenders at .583.
OF — Jacob Parker, Purvis (Miss.)
Led Purvis to the Class 4A state championship game, batting .422 with 35 RBI, 27 runs, 12 doubles and five home runs.
OF — Josiah Hartshorn, Orange Lutheran (Orange, Calif.)
Hartshorne led the Lancers with 30 RBI last year while batting .313 with five doubles and four home runs.
OF — Slater de Brun, Summit (Bend, Ore.)
An all-state selection as a junior, de Brun was also the leading hitter for Team USA 18U that won the World Cup over the summer with a .429 batting average. Also led the team in stolen bases.
OF — Johnathan Coombs, DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.)
Coombs was All-Metro by the Washington Post in baseball last spring and in football this fall. He also played in the Perfect Game All-American Classic.
AP — Nicholas Partida, Pearland (Texas)
Partida had an outstanding summer as part of Team USA 18U as he went 2-0 on the mound in the tournament and struck out a team-high 12 batters. Ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Texas behind Kayson Cunningham.
AP — Josh Hammond, Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.)
Hammond was a threat on the mound and at the plate. He went 6-1 as a pitcher with 44 strikeouts and a 2.62 ERA in 32 innings. Offensively, Hammond batted .365 with 28 runs, 25 RBI, eight doubles and five home runs. He played on the Team USA 18U team that won the World Cup.
AP — Xavier Neyens, Mount Vernon (Wash.)
Ranked
as the No. 2 player in the nation by Perfect Game, Neyens went 7-0 on
the mound last year with a 1.35 ERA and 56 strikeouts in 41.1 innings
pitched. He also batted .443 with 41 runs, 24 RBI, 10 doubles, three
home runs and two triples.
