Fudd, named after women's basketball legend Jennifer Azzi, starred at St. John's before heading to UConn for a stellar collegiate career and becoming the seventh former Husky to be the top pick in the WNBA Draft.
The 5-foot-11 guard was one of two players from the District of Columbia to be taken in Monday's first round along with
Kiki Rice of
Sidwell Friends.
Rice, who was taken sixth by the expansion Toronto Tempo, was one of a record five players selected from national champion UCLA. The Bruins produced a sixth pick with Charlisse Leger-Walker from New Zealand going in the second round.
Florida had the most picks in the three-round draft with four while Georgia and North Carolina each had two hometown players chosen.
The International contingent led the draft with 17 picks, including Awa Fam Thiam of Spain as the No. 3 pick overall by the Seattle Storm.
