Video: Hawaii's Raymond Torii Field Venue sits less than 100 yards away from the Pacific Ocean.
The setting for the ABC reality drama
Bachelor in Paradise has nothing on Hawaii's Raymond Torii Field – home of the
Wai'anae Seariders.
The venue was included in our
10 more high school football stadiums to see before you die feature last week and stole the show. There may not be a more scenic site for prep pigskin in the entire country.
Wai'anae is 30 miles west of Honolulu and the field sits less than 100 yards away from the Pacific Ocean, providing a stunning backdrop on Friday nights as seen in the video above.
Torii – the field's namesake – was Wai'anae's first principal when the school opened in 1957. The Seariders have experienced plenty of success over the years, winning the initial OIA championship in 1966 and then capturing it 15 more times through 1997.
Wai'anae has experienced a championship drought in the 2000s, however. The Seariders reached the title game in 2000, 2006 and 2007 but came up short in each.
Best setting for a high school football game? Wai'anae is a contender for that title each and every year.
The school of around 1,800 students has produced champions and stars off the gridiron as well. Current UFC featherweight (145 pounds) king Max Holloway is a 2010 graduate and the late legendary singer-songwriter Israel Kamakawiwo'ole – best known for his medley of
Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World – was also a Searider.
