The MaxPreps All-Sac-Joaquin Section boys basketball team honors the top players in the area. Following a win by
Modesto Christian (Modesto) in the Division I championship game at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento on Feb. 25,
B.J. Davis highlights the list along with
Andrej Stojakovic of
Jesuit (Carmichael) as Sac-Joaquin Section Co-Players of the Year. The list highlights three teams, honorable mentions and the top player from each class.

Led the Crusaders to their second consecutive section championship with 27 points in a 79-53 Division I win over Jesuit. The future San Diego State guard is the co-player and averaged 18.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists and two steals for a team that went 22-0 against teams north of Fresno. On Dec. 19, Davis scored a season-high 49 points in a 74-71 win over John Paul II (Plano, Texas)
Andrej Stojakovic | Sr. | Jesuit (Carmichael) | Guard
Did it all for the Marauders this year, leading his squad to its first section championship game since 2014. The senior can score from anywhere on the floor and uses elite court vision to find open teammates when doubled.
Headed to Stanford, Stojakovic joins DeMarcus Nelson of Sheldon and Jordan Brown of Woodcreek as the only McDonald's All-Americans to have played high school basketball in the Sacramento area.
Junior of the YearKendahl Hearne | Jr. | Sacramento | Guard/ForwardThe Sacramento wing contributed to every facet of the stat sheet for the Dragons this season and showed up when it mattered most, in the team's Division III Sac-Joaquin Section championship victory. Hearne had 17 as the Dragons won their first blue banner since 2016.
On the season the junior averaged 14 points, 4.2 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 1.7 steals per ball game.
Sophomore of the Year
Gavin Sykes | So. | Capital Christian (Sacramento) | Guard Sykes did it all for Capital Christian, averaging 13.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. The team played Jesuit close in the section playoffs, nearly winning on the road. The Cougars are set to return a plethora of young talent including
Myles Wiggins,
Mohammed Kamara,
Storm Basham,
Marcellas Jackson and
Jaylen Valdez — a sophomore standout himself who averaged 10.1 points per game.
Freshman of the Year
Rashod Cotton | Fr. | Modesto Christian (Modesto) | GuardFilled up minutes efficiently off the bench for the Division I section champs. The Crusaders ninth-grader averaged 9.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.6 steals per contest. At 6-feet tall, Cotton had eight games where he scored at least 12 points.
First teamJalen Brown | Sr. | Modesto Christian (Modesto) Averaged 15.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists for section's top team. Had 19 points and seven assists against Jesuit in the title game.
Jalen Glenn | Sr. | Inderkum (Sacramento) Two-way player who averaged 15.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 2.2 steals for Division I section semifinalist.
Kevin Haupt | Jr. | Jesuit (Carmichael) Three-point bucket with a knack for getting open.
Jadon Hurtado | Sr. | Whitney (Rocklin) Team leader who consistently scored 20+ points as Wildcats were Division II section champs.
Yaqub Mir | Sr. | Granite Bay Had 27 points in the Division II section championship loss to Whitney.
Second teamJoshua Brown Jr. | Sr. | Marysville Helped lead Marysville to Division IV championship with 26 points after averaging 17.8 points, 3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.7 steals a game.
Micah Johnston | Sr. | Folsom Helped the Bulldogs earn a high seed in both the section and Northern California Division I playoffs.
Varick Lewis | Sr. | Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) Had four 30-plus point games and averaged 20.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.2 steals throughout the season. The Long Beach State signee nearly helped the Mustangs knock off Jesuit in the Division I playoffs.
Luke Mason | Sr. | Rio Americano (Sacramento) Had nine games of at least 20 points for the Raiders, who went to the Division II section semifinals. Averaged 16.2 points and four rebounds a night.
Caden Pinnick | Jr. | Del Oro (Loomis) Floor general helped Del Oro win Kendall Arnett Tournament. Averaged 19 points, 5.4 boards, 3.2 assists and 1.9 steals a game.
Senior scored nearly 2,000 points in his career and had 17.7 points per game as a senior along with 7.5 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.9 steals. Had more than 20 points in 10 games this season for the 29-1 Falcons, who won the Central California Conference for a third straight season.
Third teamSir Marius Jones | So. | Sacramento Stellar
sophomore who averaged 13.4 points a game. In the Division III section
championship game, Jones hit several big shots as the Dragons won the
blue banner.
A complete player, Lindsey averaged 13.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.7 steals per game for the No. 6-seed in Division I.
Elijah Mobley | Sr. | Weston Ranch (Stockton) Senior helped lead Weston Ranch to a huge upset over Folsom in the Division I playoffs. Scored nearly 20 points per game on the season while adding an additional 5.2 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.2 steals.
Anthony Moore | So. | Lincoln (Stockton) Took off this season scoring at least 15 points in 15 different games. Added 6.3 rebounds per contest.
Tyler Thompson | Jr. | Vanden (Fairfield) The junior has offers from Portland State and Sacramento State and helped Vanden reach the Division III section championship.
