Why it's big: Teams that collectively own nine of the last 11 Greater Catholic League South championships open conference play with a head-to-head matchup Friday night.
Moeller needs a win to avoid dipping below the .500 mark for the first time since 2008. The Crusaders (2-2) had their 16-game winning streak against non-Ohio teams snapped when they lost at home to Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) last week.
St. Xavier (3-1) has back-to-back impressive wins following a Sept. 5 overtime loss to state-ranked Colerain. The Bombers want to end a four-game losing streak against Moeller and even the series at 8-8 in games played since 2004.
Names to watch: Moeller's
Jake Hausmann posted career highs of 11 receptions for 103 yards with one touchdown in the 31-14 loss to Don Bosco Prep. Hausmann – the nation's top-rated tight end according to 247Sports – will play at Ohio State next season.
St. Xavier junior
Sean Clifford had a career night of his own in a 59-13 rout of state-ranked Mentor two weeks ago. The Penn State commit completed 17 of 23 passes that night for 283 yards and five touchdowns.
