When a team needs to close out a tournament championship, it doesn't usually call on its No. 4 pitcher to deliver the win, but for the
Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) Monarchs,
Jacob Erickson has been the right man for the job two weeks in a row.
Erickson got the win in the championship game of the National High School Invitational two weeks ago and Friday he got the 6-0 win over
Oaks Christian (Westlake Village, Calif.) to capture the Boras Classic south regional. Erickson had his second straight shutout and struck out 11 batters in lifting Mater Dei to its 14th win in a row (14-1).
"We've been very impressed with what Jacob's done this year," Mater Dei coach Burt Call told the Orange County Register. "He's come up big for us, in a championship game last week and this week's championship game."
Mater Dei will meet Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove, Calif.) for the championship of the Boras Classic on April 13 at University of Pacific in Stockton.
