A strong showing by Freedom (Oakley) and a closer-than-expected win for De La Salle has resulted in some major changes atop the MaxPreps California Regional Bowl Game matchups.

De La Salle has won 24 straight North Coast Section championships and has thus been the top team from Division 1 in the North Coast Section in these rankings for the past two years. However, the Spartans defeated San Ramon Valley 28-27 last week while Freedom demolished Antioch 65-28.

As a result, Freedom has bumped De La Salle out of the bowl game matchups and has taken over the top ranking in the North Coast Section.

Freedom is one of eight new teams in this week's matchups. Another is Serra, which takes over as the Open Division 1 runner-up despite a 2-4 record. Serra knocked off unbeaten Saint Francis last week.

MaxPreps determines its regional matchup predictions based on the MaxPreps Computer Rankings presented by the Army National Guard. Care is also taken to avoid regional matchups between teams from the same section when possible. The team's record from this year and its current computer ranking are included in the regional matchups.
