Clint Frazier hits two home runs, wins showdown with Austin Meadows

In a showdown between the top two recruits in the nation, Clint Frazier of Loganville (Loganville, Ga.) proved himself worthy of his No. 1 status.

Frazier and his Red Devil teammates squared off against neighboring Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), home of the nation's No. 2 prospect Austin Meadows, on Tuesday at Loganville Middle School. In leading Loganville to a 14-4 win, Frazier went 2-for-4 with two home runs, including a monster shot that reverberated across the internet with awe-inspired tweets.

"HOLY MOTHER OF... first-pitch BOMB by Frazier," Nathan Rode of Baseball America tweeted shortly after Frazier's first home run of the night soared into the lights at the Red Devils' home field and gave Loganville a 6-3 lead.

"Sweet mother mercy... This place EXPLODED," tweeted Conor Glassey, also of Baseball America.

"Clint Frazier launches a bomb on an inside fastball. Bat speed, my friends. Bat speed and hands," tweeted Augusta Chronicle writer David Lee.

Frazier's blast broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning. He hit the home run with runners at first and second and two outs.

While Frazier was having a legendary night for Loganville, Meadows had a more subdued performance. He walked in his first at-bat and promptly stole second base standing up. He was hit with a pitch in the back in his second at-bat and struck out in his final plate appearance.

Frazier, however, gave fans a look at what was to come in his first at-bat of the night. Although Frazier's hit was caught by the outfielder, it was a well-hit line shot.

The Loganville senior, who hit 24 home runs last season, struck out on an off-speed pitch in his second at-bat, setting the stage for the fireworks in the fourth.

Frazier wasn't finished following his fourth-inning blast, however. In the sixth inning, Frazier added his second home run of the game, a two-run shot, that gave Loganville a 10-4 lead. The two homers give Frazier six in just six games this year.

Logan Mattix brought the game to a fitting end in the bottom of the sixth with a walk-off grand slam that invoked the 10-run mercy rule.

Loganville is 5-1 with the victory while Grayson fell to 4-3. Loganville has a big matchup at home against Farragut (Knoxville, Tenn.) on March 22 while Grayson has another big game on Friday at the home of defending 5A state champion Parkview (Lilburn, Ga.).

Tuesday's contest was much anticipated since the start of the season when Frazier and Meadows first started receiving attention as the top two prospects in the country. According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, both Meadows and Frazier wowed fans during batting practice as the middle school stadium was packed two hours prior to the game.
