The formation alone is worth a gander. Remember the
A-11 offense where the line of scrimmages is split among linemen?
Well that's how this play from upstart
Liberty (Brentwood, Calif.) began.
Then it was all
Willie Williams — with a couple of very key blocks.
The multidimensional 6-foot-1, 180-pound senior did a lot of this 40-yard touchdown run on his own Friday against archrival Freedom. Williams sweeps rights, gets spun around and then sweeps left, gets a big block from quarterback
Joseph Tolentino, then cuts it back again all the way to the right before scoring.
Catch all that? If not, take another look at the video.
It highlighted a
21-7 win over Freedom and the Lions (8-2) will host their first North Coast Section playoff game ever. The eight wins are the most the school has achieved since 1967 and they've done it with a lot of flair. Besides occasionally using the A-11 offense, seven different players other than Tolentino have thrown passes.
Williams is equally effective as a rusher (46 carries, 485 yards, 10.5 average) and receiver (17 catches, 429 yards, 25.2 average) with a combined nine touchdowns.
If the scintillating run isn't enough, check out Williams' athleticism as he leaps over a defender late in the highlight video.
