No. 11 Colerain (12-1) earned its first trip to the state semifinals since 2006 by pummeling Elder (Cincinnati), 41-11, last week. The Cardinals – who average nearly 350 rushing yards per game – exploded for 509 yards on the ground against Elder.
Wayne (13-0) made its first appearance in the Xcellent 25 at No. 23 after a hard-fought 20-6 win against Hilliard Davidson. The Warriors are just one win away from back-to-back trips to the state title game.
Names to watch: Colerain senior quarterback
DeShaunte Jones ran for 195 yards and two touchdowns against Elder, pushing his season totals to 1,786 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns. Junior fullback
Monalo Caldwell had a career-high 222 yards and three touchdowns.
Wayne's
Messiah DeWeaver, rated the No. 10 pro-style passing prospect in the Class of 2016 by 247Sports, has thrown for 2,692 yards with 29 touchdowns and only two interceptions this season. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder is committed to Michigan State.
